Onboarding CMIC: Bringing the Construction Industry Onchain via Celo
TL;DR
We’ve officially onboarded CMIC CDMX (Cámara Mexicana de la Industria de la Construcción) to the Celo ecosystem — opening the door to one of Mexico’s most traditional and economically significant industries. Backed by SEDECO and in talks with SEDEMA, this collaboration positions Celo as the infrastructure for real-world environmental solutions. The project includes university workshops, a hackathon, and showcases during the BIM Forum and Mexico City’s Climate Week 2025 — where the Web3 RWAs decentralized marketplace initiative built on Celo will be presented.
Who is CMIC?
CMIC is the official chamber that represents Mexico’s construction sector — a key economic pillar nationwide. The construction industry contributed MXN $2.32 trillion pesos to Mexico’s GDP in 2024 and employed over 8.5 million people across the country1.
Their participation is a huge milestone: bringing blockchain to a sector that is historically analog but deeply impactful.
The Problem: Construction Waste in Mexico City
Mexico City produces between 14,000 and 16,000 tons of construction and demolition waste (RCD) every day 2.
Much of it ends up in illegal landfills, affecting soil, water, and public health.
These materials — concrete, metals, wood, etc. — often go untracked and underutilized.
Our initiative aims to create an onchain system that enables traceability, reuse, and tokenization of these resources — turning them into Real World Assets (RWAs).
Institutional Backing
We pitched this initiative to SEDECO (Secretaría de Desarrollo Económico de CDMX), which formally backed the project and is now connecting us with SEDEMA (Secretaría del Medio Ambiente). This triad — CMIC + SEDECO + SEDEMA — forms the public-private framework to ensure the solution is both economically viable and environmentally impactful.

Workshops at Major Universities
To activate the next generation of builders, next semester we’re visiting major universities with the CMIC team for workshops that combine:
- Circular economy fundamentals
- Web3 programming (with Celo stack)
- Real-world impact through decentralized infrastructure
These sessions will run through August 2025 in preparation for the hackathon.
Hackathon + Showcase Path
- In September 2025, we’ll host a hackathon in collaboration with CMIC.
- The winning prototype will be showcased at the BIM FORUM (hosted at CMIC HQ).
- And the entire initiative will be presented during Mexico City’s official Climate Week 2025 — highlighting Celo as a blockchain for environmental infrastructure.
Next Steps
- Finalize onboarding of SEDEMA
- Execute university workshops (August)
- Launch hackathon (September)
- Demo and present during BIM FORUM (November)
- Showcase at Climate Week CDMX (December)
The team is also building and shipping the next generation solutions for the integration of our current plans, huge shout out to our core team member @OzKar for winning TWO first places for the MiniPay Hackathon:
