Proposal: Host Celo Gather 2025 in Buenos Aires During Devconnect

Summary

This post is meant to kick off a discussion about where the community should host Celo Gather 2025, proposing to do it specifically in Buenos Aires, Argentina during Devconnect (17-22 November 2025).

Why now?

Devconnect 2025 in Buenos Aires is set to be the biggest crypto event of the year globally. If there’s one week where we’re likely to get the highest concentration of Celo community members in one place, it’s this one.

Not only will key members of the Celo ecosystem be around, but the broader global crypto community will be in town too. It’s a unique opportunity to gather, connect, and showcase Celo to a wider audience.

Why in Buenos Aires?

The community

While Argentina has a strong crypto presence, Celo hasn’t yet reached its full potential here. Hosting the event in Buenos Aires would be a great way to bridge that gap, bringing local builders and community members into closer contact with Celo OGs and contributors from around the world.

The city

Buenos Aires is my hometown—and it’s a vibrant, dynamic, and tech-savvy city with a rich crypto culture. It’s already earned a reputation as a regional hub for web3 innovation, and it offers the right energy and infrastructure to host something special.

If you’re unfamiliar with the city’s strengths, I highly recommend reading Martín Tellechea’s writeup from when he proposed Buenos Aires as a Devconnect venue.

Budget

I haven’t run the numbers yet, but I’d expect costs to be roughly in line with Celo Gather 2024 in Berlin—even while hosting a slightly larger event. We can dive into the details once there’s general alignment around the idea.

Team

Ideally, the organizing team would include Buenos Aires-based contributors, including current or former CeLatam DAO members. We can finalize the team structure once there’s general support for the proposal.

I would love to be part of the team, I am not in Argentina most of the year, but I know the city very well and have a lot of local connections to make the event a success.

That’s a great proposal Martin, and I think that will help us to show and promote the work that we and other communities are doing in the Region.

Argentina is one of our most important countries this year.

To add more information, I have the experience organizing big events. I lead Blockchain Summit Latam from 2018 to 2023, impacting more than 15,000 people, in 7 editions across different countries through the region.

I know that Celo ecosystem could have an important impact organizing Celo Gather in Buenos Aires.

(Last year I was in Buenos Aires for Crescimiento and wasn’t able to eat the meat or the dulce the leche).

I’m really excited about the idea of hosting Celo Gather 2025 in Buenos Aires :argentina::sparkles:
It feels like a great move to help strengthen the Celo community in Argentina — there’s a lot of potential there, and this could really boost local engagement. Plus, it would be an awesome way to reconnect with builders in the region and give fresh energy to the ecosystem.

Having @martinvol involved is a big bonus too :raising_hands: He’s been part of @CeLatam from the start, and his local experience will surely make this event even stronger.

And okay… personal wishlist for the closing party: imagine an epic Argentine steak :cut_of_meat:, great local wine :wine_glass:, and good vibes all around! :fire: Let’s make it unforgettable!

At CeLatam, we are super about bringing Celo Gather to Latam (as shared in our 2025 Strategy recently posted on the Forum), and Devconnect in Buenos Aires would be THE PLACE to promote a remarkable event.

This is not a proposal involving ceLatam (or any other group), I mean to set up a group of people ad-hoc to get the ball rolling.

What about a imageelo Hacker House?

Actually we can use this to showcase all regonal hubs and the DApps on each regional hub.

I have reliable people in Buenos Aires that can help us with communications and on-the-ground scouting and negotiations.

Can you double click about what a Hacker House will require?

I think it’d be better to talk about that in another proposal, as Celo Gather is a well-known event format.
