The purpose of this discussion is to revisit and reignite conversations around the “Creators Ecosystem”, previously referred to as the Creators Collective by @nraghuveera.

As Celo prepares to transition to L2 by January 2025, it is crucial that the creators ecosystem is not overlooked. The creative industry is a dynamic and ever-evolving landscape. A significant portion of traditional marketing has shifted to digital creators—bloggers, influencers, podcasters, artists, and more—each with distinct audiences interacting with their work daily.

The creator economy comprises millions of independent content creators, social media influencers, vloggers, podcasters, and freelancers who monetize their online presence. In 2024, this ecosystem was estimated at over $250 billion globally, driven by platforms like YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Patreon, and Substack.

  5. Is a Creative Collective DAO aligned with the Celo ecosystem as it transitions to L2?
  6. Should the CELO creators ecosystem function within the framework or constraints of Celo Public Goods (CPG)?

Hi Hawwal, starting this conversation is a great idea!

I recently inquired about the NFT plans on Celo, because I had an idea about getting into the avatar space. For me, the selling point of Celo is the community focus. I asked if there were plans for a market where artists can allocate some proceeds to a project of their choice in the ecosystem, like providing funds for unbanked people and so on.

I was told there were no plans as yet. So far, I’ve only seen celo-based NFTs on Rarible (which is kind of dead) and on Celosphere, which only accepted set amount of artworks for the year, and its future is unknown, especially since the team is working on the L2 transition!

From what I’ve seen, it’s not difficult to find enthusiastic artists, but creating a collector community might be a harder nut to crack.
