1. The Unparalleled Opportunity for Celo in Southeast Asia: A Focus on Thailand and Vietnam

Thailand: A Crypto Utopia Awaits Celo’s Entry

The crypto landscape in Thailand is nothing short of vibrant. According to Statista’s Consumer Insights, nearly half (44%) of the Thai population are aware or have experienced cryptocurrencies, making it second globally per capita. But what’s more astounding is the growth rate: from November 2020 to April 2021, Thailand saw a 600% increase in crypto trading volume, skyrocketing from $574.5 million to $3.96 billion. The nation also leads the world with a 20.1% per capita crypto ownership ratio, doubling the global average.

Yet, despite its presence in Thai crypto exchanges, Celo remains under the radar for most Thai crypto enthusiasts. This is where the opportunity lies. With 77% of the Thai population having internet access and ranking second globally in mobile internet usage, Celo’s mobile-first blockchain technology is a perfect fit. Imagine the impact of integrating Celo’s easy-to-use Defi ecosystem and low-cost transactions into Thailand’s rapidly expanding crypto environment. Even large Thai companies listed on the stock market are eyeing the crypto space. The integration of Celo could serve as a watershed moment, providing a sustainable crypto solution for both individual and corporate stakeholders.

How Celo Can Revolutionize Thailand’s Crypto Landscape

By focusing on these four objectives, we aim to elevate Celo’s brand awareness and adoption in Thailand:

  1. Educate and Engage: Collaborate with local influencers and tech communities to educate the masses on Celo’s unique advantages, such as low gas fees and mobile-friendly interface.
  2. Corporate Outreach: Initiate discussions with big companies listed on the Thai stock market that are already keen on crypto investment, offering them Celo as a sustainable financial tool.
  3. User-friendly Access: Make the Celo token readily available on Bitkub, Thailand’s leading CEX, and promote easy transition to the Valora wallet for effective Defi utilization.
  4. Community Building: Establish a strong Celo community in Thailand to serve as brand advocates and offer user support.

Vietnam: The Frontier for Celo’s Next Wave of Adoption

Vietnam takes the crown for crypto adoption, according to The Chainalysis 2021 and 2022 Global Crypto Adoption Index. While there’s a growing interest in Celo and its ecosystem, such as Ubeswap and Moola, there’s also a challenge: many Vietnamese crypto enthusiasts face language barriers and are susceptible to scams.

Our mission is to mitigate this by providing a dedicated Vietnamese Telegram group that offers real-time updates and education on Celo technology. Much like the official Celo Telegram channel, our admin team will actively engage with the community to resolve technical issues, clarify doubts, and disseminate accurate information about Celo.

The Critical Role of Southeast Asia in Celo’s Global Strategy

Southeast Asia isn’t just another market; it’s a crypto powerhouse with Thailand and Vietnam at the forefront. Both countries offer fertile ground for Celo to expand its community and enable an era of sustainable crypto-based finance. By tailoring our approach to these two unique markets, we are not just introducing a new crypto tool; we’re setting the stage for a transformative financial ecosystem.

Celo has a unique opportunity to be more than just another blockchain project in Southeast Asia. With strategic planning and a focused approach, Celo can become a cornerstone of the financial landscape in both Thailand and Vietnam, ushering a new era of crypto adoption in the region.

Thanks @Vow and team for sharing the proposal.

I’d be curious to learn more about programs you have done / might be able to set up to better support builders on the ground (eg workshops, hackathons).

Thank you so much Rene @rene_celo , for the question. We have a diverse team who have experienced setting up supports for builders on the ground. For example, one of our team member organized hackathon and workshops for Axelar, SUI and Cosmos in Bangkok. Here is the example link to the previous event.

We are excited to bring experiences from previous works to set up and build and support Celo local resources, we also share team member between Thailand and Vietnam, so we can co-create this as a regional hackathon and workshops efforts. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts::muscle:
