Volunteer Proposal: Representing the Celo Community in Afghanistan – by Shahabuddin Qatee

:pushpin: Volunteer Contribution Proposal – Celo Community Representation in Afghanistan
By: Shahabuddin Qatee

Dear Celo Team,

Warm greetings from Afghanistan!

My name is Shahabuddin Qatee — a blockchain educator, smart contract developer, and Web3 community advocate based in Afghanistan. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Economics and have been actively working in the fields of crypto education, smart contract development, and DeFi promotion for over two years.

Despite limited infrastructure and challenging conditions, I’ve successfully launched educational initiatives, built local payment systems, and introduced many youth in my region to blockchain concepts.

After studying and engaging with Celo’s mission, I truly believe its vision — “prosperity for all” — is highly aligned with the needs of underserved countries like Afghanistan. Celo’s mobile-first design, low transaction fees, and user-friendly experience make it an ideal solution for widespread adoption in this region.

:bullseye: Purpose of This Proposal:

I am excited to volunteer — without compensation — as a community representative for Celo in Afghanistan. My intention is purely to support education, raise awareness, and build stronger ties between Celo and the Afghan people.

:white_check_mark: Why Me?

Hands-on experience teaching blockchain, wallets, DeFi, and staking in Farsi

Created experimental tokens such as Eid Mubarak Token and HayitMubarak Token for educational use

Developed smart contracts on BSC Testnet

Produced beginner-friendly Web3 content in local language

Hosted online training and Q&A sessions in Farsi-speaking Telegram groups

:card_index_dividers: Proposed Activities for Celo:

Create Farsi Educational Content:

Simple tutorials on Celo Wallet usage, cUSD transfers, and dApps

Explain concepts like Proof-of-Stake, Mento economy, and Celo’s environmental sustainability

Build and Manage the Celo Community in Afghanistan:

Launch a Telegram group for Farsi-speaking users

Moderate discussions, host live Q&A sessions, and support users

Support Local Developers:

Translate technical documentation into Farsi

Mentor youth interested in building on Celo

Encourage local hackathons and coding competitions

Explore Real-World Use Cases in Afghanistan:

Educate on using cUSD for local payments and remittances

Introduce Celo-based donation methods for NGOs and charities

Run small pilot projects to raise awareness of Celo’s tools

:globe_showing_europe_africa: Final Vision:

My goal is to serve as a bridge between Celo and the people of Afghanistan. I want to localize blockchain education, empower underrepresented individuals, and contribute to a future where decentralized technologies support financial independence and inclusion.

Thank you very much for your attention and kind consideration. It would be an honor to support Celo’s mission in this meaningful way.

With sincere respect,
Shahabuddin Qatee

I support this.

I know UNICEF was using blockchain and crypto with Chainanalysis. You should check it out.

Hello and regards,

Thank you for your reminder and reference to UNICEF’s crypto-based projects :globe_showing_europe_africa:

Actually, I have already researched this topic, and unfortunately, I must say that up to now, no official project related to cryptocurrencies has been launched by UNICEF or similar organizations in Afghanistan.

:magnifying_glass_tilted_left: UNICEF’s CryptoFund has been active in various countries, supporting startups and digital programs, mainly focused on countries such as:

Kenya :kenya:
Nigeria :nigeria:
India :india:
Lebanon :lebanon:
Vietnam :vietnam:
Indonesia :indonesia:
Ukraine :ukraine: (before the war)
Argentina :argentina:
and several other countries in South America and Africa.

:red_exclamation_mark: Given these circumstances, if Celo decides to launch a similar project in Afghanistan, this would be an exceptional opportunity for the people of Afghanistan — especially for the youth who are interested in education, financial access, and new technologies but have limited resources.

:pushpin: Launching such a project would not only increase access to modern financial tools but also help improve digital literacy, empower women, and strengthen financial transparency in the country.

My suggestion is that projects like Celo, in cooperation with local volunteers and the community, facilitate a formal entry path into Afghanistan. Our community is ready to learn, grow, and utilize new technologies — it just needs the opportunity.

With respect :seedling:
