I am posting here as a Celo community member and an individual on the multisig that can upgrade StakedCelo contracts: The multisig holders have enabled an upgrade of StakedCelo to v2, as has been discussed on the forum previously e.g., here.
Short summary:
- The StakedCelo protocol is upgraded to a v2, which has following benefits for its users:
- Users can now vote on CGPs and thus participate in the Celo governance process, a very important step to add more utility to the protocols and help with decentralized decision making in the Celo ecosystem
- The scalability of the protocol is increased, so that more users can participate if they want (we are currently already close to full scalability with mid 7-digit numbers of $CELO staked)
- Users can select which validator group they want to vote for, additionally to using the randomized default strategy of the protocol, which helps to let all users make the decisions they want
- 3/5 multisig holders have voted on the code change (last confirmation transaction here). Therefore, the 7-day timelock has started. It will elapse on Monday, July 3, 2023 17:28:02 UTC. After that, the change will be executed and go into effect.
