Celo Europe H2 2024 | Q3 Progress Report

This thread provides an update on the Celo Europe H2 2024 | Regional DAO Proposal progress during Q3 (July 1st - September 31st, 2024). It provides insights into what we’ve accomplished across our key focus areas and KPIs, pivots we are considering, and what’s planned for Q4.

Let’s dive in!

Focus Area 1: Events and Community Development

  • A. Celo Gather Online Event (150 attendees)

We’ve started conceptualizing the online end-of-year Celo Gather event but realized after joining the last Kuneco event that there is no better duo to do this than Daniel and Ana. We’re exploring a potential collaboration with them towards an end-of-the-year online gathering to recap Celo 2024!

Additionally, to support them, we plan to create an additional Celo Ecosystem Report for 2024 like we did for the EU Ecosystem Report 2023. This deliverable is currently being rescoped and will have more updates in the following weeks

  • B. Support Regional DAOs for ETH Safari & DevCon

We’ve managed to finalize our collaboration with CeloAfricaDAO successfully and are now focussed on supporting Celo & KohCelo in organizing their upcoming events:

  • Celo Africa DAO support for ETH Safari, included event consultancy, venue selection, programming, keynote, operational support and producing their aftermovie.
  • KohCelo is receiving similar support for their Celo Gather: Bangkok, which has already gathered 100+ signups in less than a week of going live.
  • Settlement Day in Bangkok by Celo is supported by CeloEU and includes event consultancy, production, venue selection, programming, and aftermovie.

C. Produce 3 Content Pieces (ETH Safari & DevCon)

For ETH Safari, we’ve already delivered:

With DevCon ahead, we expect to exceed this KPI by year-end.

D. Sponsor up to 4 Local Events in Europe

Thus far, we have sponsored two local events:

  1. Hackathon Brunch by Talent Protocol, Celo, and Superchain
  2. CryptoPlaza Event on October 8th, organized by Jesús Perez and Alex Puig.

After scoping Q4 for relevant side events, we’ve realized that the most impactful side events are outside Europe. For this reason, we decided to pivot and focus on deliverables that could significantly impact the ecosystem. With this being said, we’ve decided to support and partner up with KohCelo for their end-of-the-year Celo Gather: Bangkok. Besides bringing technical knowledge & operational support, we are also supporting them financially so they can scale their event from 50-60 pax to an event with 100-125 pax.

E. Host 3 Online Workshops

We currently have two workshops planned for October 24th and 31st:

We are working on a third one for later in Q4 and finalizing the details of the two upcoming workshops so we can start promoting them next week.

Focus Area 2: Ecosystem Support

A. Create 3 Educational Resources

Currently, we’ve released the following high-quality educational resources:

We also recorded over 3 hours of interview-based research in Africa with Celo and non-Celo projects, gaining insights into their challenges. However, this was beyond the scope of our original proposal, so we’re exploring how we can leverage this content/research.

For Q4, we will publish one more educational article before publicizing a comprehensive end-of-year report titled “Celo Ecosystem: 2024.”

B. Expand Investor Database

We’ve focused the last two quarters on an event-centric lead generation strategy. The Africa trip did not yield the anticipated results, partially due to the lack of VC presence. As part of our ongoing efforts to expand our investor database, we are shifting our lead generation strategy. We are moving from an event-centric approach to a data-driven strategy, incorporating curation and data scraping techniques to identify and engage investors.

C. Institutional Program Collaborations

We’re still supporting Redbeard Ventures and Denari Labs throughout their accelerator program. At the same time, we’re exploring additional collaborations with institutional partners and other on-chain protocols to bring more liquidity to the Celo ecosystem. Unfortunately, the partnership details we’re exploring cannot be mentioned yet as we’re still in the early explorative stages.

Focus Area 3: Content Production and Storytelling

A. CEL2 Launch Video

We’re in the early phases of a conversation with the Celo Foundation to establish a scope for a short documentary about the CEL2 launch. We plan to dive deeper into details in the next few weeks.

B. Builder’s Story: Minipay

We’ve conducted over 10+ interviews with Minipay users and are currently editing the following:

  1. 5-7 minute Minipay Documentary
  2. Documentary Trailer
  3. Three standalone use-case videos

C. Aftermovie reflecting Celo’s involvement in ETH Safari & DevCon

Besides the current progress, we’re heads down, focussing on DevCon content production. This will ramp up in the coming weeks as we get to define the scope of our production better in the coming days.

Even though this is in connection with last season’s deliverables, we’ve also managed to go live with our latest Builder’s Story with Mento, which can be viewed here.

D. 8 Videos at Leading Conferences

We’ve already recorded 8+ videos and are on track to produce more during our Bangkok production, significantly ahead of the CEL2 launch. We’re exploring how we can deliver more value, as we’ve recorded many standalone interviews of other ecosystem builders and would love to find a way to leverage all of this organic, real-world content. In Q4, we’ll focus on the best way to leverage the content recorded but not yet put together into a story.

Budget & Payment Terms

The Celo EU budget was divided into two installments as outlined in the initial proposal. The first tranche (Q3 budget) was disbursed at the start of the project, and we propose the second tranche (Q4 budget) to be released after the submission of the Q3 progress report. Thus far, we have utilized $35,548, with $42,452 remaining for the Q4 period. We have managed resources efficiently, ensuring we stay on track to meet our key performance indicators by the end of the season.

As we move forward with the next phase of our strategy, we kindly request that the CeloPG Stewards release the second tranche of funding so that we can coordinate the second half of our proposal.
