Celo Communities Guild Report - July :bar_chart:

Gm Celo community! :sun_with_face:

The Celo Communities Guild is excited to present our first monthly report on community activity across Discord, Telegram, and Reddit for the month of July.

July marked the beginning of our efforts under the CeloPG H2 scope, and much of our time was spent laying the groundwork for the next six months of work and setting our goals. :rocket:

We’re currently developing a point system to reward our most engaged users on Discord ETA September)* and working on boosting participation in the Celo Community Hangout, a bi-weekly call hosted by moderators on the Discord Server. We’re planning to launch a special NFT collection that will be used as a reward for those who join these calls. :gift:

As you know, summer tends to be a slower period for engagement and community activity (with everyone out there touching grass :herb:). That said, let’s dive into the statistics for July:

:speech_balloon: Discord

Our Discord server saw steady growth in July, with many new users joining, excited to learn more about the launch of Dango Testnet. These metrics are impressive, especially considering the influx of scammers joining, and we commend our moderators for their diligent efforts in banning them and keeping our community safe.

We maintained strong message activity, with the average messages per communicator consistently well above the benchmark. You can also see the amount of messages per each channel, which highlights the most active channels in the community.

:iphone: Telegram

Our Telegram group also experienced steady growth in July, driven by the buzz around the Dango Testnet launch.

Message Count: We kept the conversation lively in our Telegram group throughout July.

Actions: This includes messages deleted by admins, edited messages, members banned, and members restricted.

Actions includes Messages Deleted by Admin, Messages Edited, Member Banned, Member Restricted.

:chart_with_upwards_trend: Reddit

Over the last 30 days, our Celo Subreddit consistently saw more than 100 pageviews, peaking at almost 300.

We also had more than 20 unique users visiting our Subreddit, with a peak of nearly 88 during this period.

Final Note

The main role of moderators in keeping Discord, Telegram, and Reddit channels spam-free and welcoming is crucial. Therefore, evaluating our work solely based on the presented metrics does not fully honor our dedication. The emotional and cyclical nature of community engagement, especially in Web3, means that periods of high activity can quickly shift to low engagement due to external factors like market conditions or new developments. :globe_with_meridians:

Looking forward to keeping our community vibrant and engaged as we move forward! :muscle:

Celo Communities Guild Report - August 2024

Gm Celorians! :sun_with_face:

The Celo Communities Guild present the monthly report on community activity across Discord, Telegram, and Reddit for the month of August.

August marked the second month of our efforts under the CeloPG H2 scope, and much of our time was spent drafting our rewarding point system program. :rocket:

At the time of writing, we have already launched a point system to reward our most engaged users on Discord and working on boosting participation in the Celo Community Hangout, a bi-weekly call hosted by moderators on the Discord Server.

A more detailed post coming soon on the Forum.

We’re planning to launch a special NFT collection that will be used as a reward for those who join these calls. :gift:

As you know, summer tends to be a slower period for engagement and community activity (with everyone out there touching grass :herb:). That said, let’s dive into the statistics for August:

:memo: General

  • We had our monthly moderator call on August 16th and August 28th with this call lasting almost two (2) hours each one due to a lot of items on the agenda to discuss.

:speech_balloon: Discord

  • Security Review and Role Permission Management: As part of our collective efforts to maintain a secure and efficient environment, we conducted a comprehensive review of the security settings and role permissions within our Discord server. This process involved a thorough audit of user access levels, followed by a cleanup of inactive or unnecessary accounts. We also implemented more stringent permission settings to minimize the potential attack surface, effectively reducing the number of users who could become targets of hacking attempts. These actions are a critical part of safeguarding the integrity of our community and ensuring that only trusted members have access to sensitive areas.
  • Collaboration with DevRel Team and Ticketing System Implementation: In close collaboration with the DevRel (Developer Relations) team, was introduced a streamlined ticketing system designed to handle technical queries more efficiently. This system allows us to adopt a more organized and responsive approach to addressing developer inquiries, resulting in quicker turnaround times and enhanced support for developers in the Celo ecosystem. By improving the structure and accessibility of technical assistance, we are fostering a culture of collaboration while raising awareness of best practices among developers within our ecosystem.
  • Development of the Celo Communities Guild on Guild.xyz: We continued to lead the planning and preparation for the launch of the Celo Communities Guild on Guild.xyz. Our goal is to create a dedicated space for community-driven initiatives, enabling members to collaborate more effectively and participate in various activities. The groundwork we are currently laying will serve as a foundation for future growth and engagement, nurturing a stronger sense of community and shared purpose among Celo members.
  • Hosting and Piloting Reward-Based Engagement at Celo Community Hangouts: As part of our strategy to boost community engagement, we organized and hosted two Celo Community Hangouts, offering a platform for members to connect, exchange insights, and discuss important topics. During one of these sessions, we piloted a reward system by offering 25 Celo to the most engaged user, incentivizing active participation. This initiative led to a marked increase in both the quality of contributions and overall engagement, demonstrating the value of incorporating rewards to foster a more dynamic and interactive community experience.

The Discord server in August received a steady influx of new members joining.

We are working hard to improve and encourage new members to talk more when joining the Server, but overall we are happy with the visiting retention.

Our Telegram group also experienced steady growth in August.

Message Count: We kept the conversation lively in our Telegram group throughout August.

Actions: This includes messages deleted by admins, members banned, and members restricted.

:bar_chart: Celo Communities Guild Report - September 2024

Gm Celorians! :sun_with_face:

The Celo Communities Guild is excited to present the monthly report on community activity across Discord, Telegram, and Reddit for the month of September.

September marked the third month of our efforts under the CeloPG H2 scope, and was intense in terms of activity and new programs. We finally launched our point system to reward the most active community member on Discord each month using Guild.xyz.

:memo: General

  • Hosted our Monthly Moderators Call: We had our monthly moderator call on September 5th and September 25th with every call lasting more than 1 hour due to a lot of items on the agenda to discuss.

  • Launched the Celo Communities Guild on Guild.xyz: We introduced the Celo Communities Guild on Guild.xyz, a new reward system designed to recognize and incentivize community engagement within our Discord server.

    • This initiative allows members to earn EXP points through regular interactions, which in turn unlock a range of Celorian roles, from Beginner to Champion. Each role is tied to “Seeds” on Guild.xyz, providing members with an opportunity to climb the leaderboard and compete for monthly rewards.
    • At the end of each month, the top 5 most active members will share a total of 250 Celo, fostering a competitive yet inclusive environment that encourages consistent participation.
    • In addition to ongoing engagement rewards, we plan to introduce monthly quests featuring on-chain activities, further diversifying ways for members to earn points and deepen their involvement in the Celo ecosystem. This initiative not only rewards active members but also strengthens the sense of community by creating continuous learning and interaction opportunities.
  • Assisted Kuneko in Organizing a Discord Event for Luma Integration: We worked closely with Kuneko to help them setting up a Discord event pointing to the LuMa Invite to direct people to join the call, we also made some announcements in Discord to help engage community with this call.

  • Hosted Community Hangout: On September 19th, we successfully hosted a Community Hangout, providing a dedicated space for members to connect, share updates, and discuss ongoing developments within the Celo ecosystem.

    • These hangouts are part of our ongoing efforts to foster open dialogue, strengthen community bonds, and facilitate the exchange of knowledge and ideas among our members.
    • The positive engagement and participation demonstrated during this session underscored the importance of these regular gatherings in building a vibrant community.
    • At the end of the call we offered 25 Celo to the most engaged member, that this time was equally shared among two Celorians.
  • Creation of the Celo Layer 2 Support Channel: In response to the growing need for technical support and discussion around Layer 2 solutions within the Celo ecosystem, after a request from the DevRel team at CF we established a dedicated Celo L2 support channel on Discord.

    • This new channel serves as a central hub for users to ask questions, seek guidance, and engage in conversations about Layer 2 technologies. By offering a specialized support channel, we aim to streamline technical assistance and enhance user experience within our community.
  • Expansion of the Ticketing System for Developer Role Support: Recognizing the necessity for more robust support for developers in our community, we expanded our ticketing system to better accommodate those with the Developer role. This enhanced system enables developers to submit queries directly, ensuring they receive timely and organized responses from the Dev Rel team.

  • Launch of the Celo Communities Guild X Account for Enhanced Communication: To further enhance our communication strategies and strengthen our presence on social media, we established the X account for the Celo Communities Guild on Twitter. This account serves as a vital channel for sharing our initiatives, promoting upcoming events, and reposting content from community members. By actively engaging on Twitter, we aim to increase the visibility of community-led activities, foster a sense of inclusivity, and highlight the collaborative efforts within the Celo ecosystem.

:bar_chart: Celo Communities Guild Report - October 2024

GM Celorians! :sun_with_face:

October kept us on our toes with fresh activity across Discord, Telegram, and Reddit. With another month behind us, we’re here to lay out the progress, initiatives, and notable happenings in the Guild’s ever-growing community.

This month, we continued fine-tuning our engagement programs under the CeloPG H2 initiative. The Guild has hit its stride, making October a month of solid interaction and deeper community connections.

:memo: General

  • Second Month on Guild.xyz: October marked our first full month using Guild.xyz to reward active community members. The response has been nothing short of fantastic, with a solid turnout of participants eagerly engaging with the new points system. The competitive yet welcoming spirit it has fostered has added a fresh layer of excitement, and we’re thrilled to see members climbing the ranks and embracing the Celorian roles with enthusiasm.

  • October Moderator Calls: Our October moderator catch-ups were held on the 23th of the month. From talking about member queries to community engagement ideas, each call helped us build stronger momentum.

  • Challenges with Captcha Verification on Guild.xyz: This month wasn’t without its hiccups, though. We encountered some issues with Guild.xyz’s captcha verification process, which briefly complicated user onboarding. While it took some time to resolve, our members handled it with patience, and we worked closely with Guild.xyz to smooth things out. Our goal, as always, is to keep entry hurdles low and make joining the community as easy as possible.

  • Automod Policy Review: To keep our online spaces respectful and safe, we revisited and fine-tuned some of our Automod policies. This review focused on streamlining moderation settings and ensuring they align with community standards without stifling engagement. We’re aiming for just the right balance where our members feel both protected and free to contribute.

  • October Community Hangouts: This month, we hosted two Community Hangouts on October 10th and October 24th. Both sessions offered members a chance to connect, share updates, and dive into Celo ecosystem discussions. These gatherings remain an essential part of building our community, providing everyone with a relaxed setting to interact and grow together.

Statistics

:speech_balloon: Discord

October saw a steady stream of members joining, adding to our growing numbers.

How many new members successfully activate on their first day?

A new member is “activated” when they understand what the community is about and why it’s a fit for them. Usually, this is reflected by them at least sending a message or exploring the server beyond the first few channels.

New members who don’t activate tend to remain inactive, so try to improve this. How can you make it easier for new members to onboard into your community?

How many new members retain the next week?

Retention measures how many new members stick around in the server beyond their first day. To improve this number, focus on improving activation (see chart above) and making your community more active.

How to read the numbers: If April 1st has a Week 1 Retention of 20% with 10 new members joining, it means that of the 10 new people who joined, 2 of them came back to the server again the next week (April 8th - April 15th). As such, the retention line will always be 2 weeks behind the current date.

We saw a good spread of messages across various channels, with some emerging as hotspots for more in-depth conversations.

:iphone: Telegram

  • Growth: Our Telegram group struggled to growth in October, we had new members but also some members left and others were banned.

  • Message Count: We kept the conversation lively in our Telegram group throughout October, you can see the text messages (Light Blue), Links (Orange), Gifs (Green), Photo (Red), Stickers (Purple), Voce Messages (Yellow), Video (Purple-Magenta)

  • Actions: This includes messages deleted by admins (Green), members banned (Red), and members restricted (Orange).

:chart_with_upwards_trend: Reddit

October was an active month on our Celo Subreddit, with steady page views and engagement.

We logged over 100 daily views, peaking near 250 views on October 2nd.

There were more than 40 unique users per day on average, with a notable surge reaching around 900 visitors in a single day.

Final Thoughts

As always, the Guild’s moderators have put in the time to keep Discord, Telegram, and Reddit channels inviting and spam-free. Our efforts in October underscore that managing an engaged, welcoming community takes patience and continuous adaptation. External factors, from market news to shifting Web3 trends, can impact member engagement, but our goal remains the same: to create a thriving, supportive environment for everyone involved. :muscle:

Here’s to building an even more connected and active community as we step into the final months of the year!

:bar_chart: Celo Communities Guild Report - November 2024

GM Celorians! :sun_with_face:

November brought with it a wave of activity across Discord, Telegram, and Reddit. Today we’re excited to share highlights, updates, and insights from the Guild’s vibrant and steadily growing community.

This month, we continued refining our engagement strategies under the CeloPG H2 initiative. November proved to be a period of steady growth, fostering greater participation across the board.

We just reached our first 100 members in the guild.

:memo: General

Two Full Months with Guild.xyz

November marked our second complete month utilizing Guild.xyz to recognize and reward active community members. The response has been overwhelmingly positive, with many participants enthusiastically adopting the new points-based system. The healthy competition it has inspired has created a buzz, and we’re thrilled to see members actively working their way up the Celorian ranks.

November Moderator Meetings

The moderators came together on November 27th to discuss various aspects of community building, from addressing member concerns to brainstorming ways to enhance engagement. These sessions have proven invaluable in maintaining our momentum and staying aligned as a team.

Revamping Regional and Language Channels

In a step towards enhancing regional collaboration, we’re making adjustments to our channel structure. The goal is to foster meaningful conversations focused on regional coordination rather than solely on language. As part of this change:

New Regional DAO Channels

  • We’ve introduced channels for Celo Europe, CeLatam, KohCelo, Celo Africa, and Celo Philippines to facilitate localized efforts and discussions.
  • Language Channel Updates: While we’re archiving several language-based channels, including Africa, Korean, Croatian, Hindi, French, MENA, Philippines, Portuguese, South East Asia, Thai, Turkish, and Vietnamese, we’ve decided to retain Russian and Chinese channels. These communities remain active and lack dedicated DAOs, making it vital to preserve these spaces for meaningful interactions.

With these changes, we’re confident the Guild’s structure will better support regional initiatives while maintaining spaces for key language-based engagement.

November Community Hangouts

This month, we hosted two Community Hangouts on November 7th and November 21th. Both sessions offered members a chance to connect, share updates, and dive into Celo ecosystem discussions. These gatherings remain an essential part of building our community, providing everyone with a relaxed setting to interact and grow together.
