[Project Complete] Our ALMOND 2025 Journey: Building Real Solutions for Real People

Celebrating the successful completion of our ALMOND 2025 grant period! From survey platform to comprehensive micro-task ecosystem - every milestone achieved and ready for what’s next.

Wrapping Up an Incredible Grant Period

Hey Celo community! We’re officially closing out our ALMOND 2025 grant period, and we wanted to share what we’ve accomplished together. When we started, Canvassing was just an idea about fair compensation for surveys. Today, it’s a working platform that people actually use and value.

This wasn’t just about hitting milestones - it was about building something that could genuinely support African communities through meaningful earning opportunities.

What We Delivered

1. A Mobile App People Actually Use

Getting Pax live on Google Play was a huge moment for our team. We also made the entire codebase open source because we believe in transparency and community building.

The numbers speak for themselves: over 1,000 downloads with 664 people still actively using the app as of early September. These aren’t vanity metrics - they represent real individuals who chose to spend their time engaging with something we built.

2. Meaningful Micro-Tasks That Matter

Between July and September, we facilitated 5 different research projects:

  • Climate action insights with WAYST RECYCLING

  • Crypto budgeting research with EXPENDI

  • Savings and lending patterns with MINILEND

  • Web3 governance participation study

  • Crypto education preferences analysis

Over 600 people participated across these projects. Each person shared their time and insights because they saw value in contributing to meaningful research.

3. Research Platform That Works

We built and deployed Rez, our researcher platform that lets organizations create and manage their own studies. It’s not just functional - it’s actually being used by real researchers for real projects.

4. Community-Driven Growth

Our ambassador program brought together 4 early adopters who spent 5 weeks helping grow our community organically. The authentic word-of-mouth growth we saw proved that when you build something people find valuable, they’ll naturally share it with others.

5. Research Insights Published

We’ve shared our findings through multiple channels:

Technical Infrastructure We Built

Mobile App Features:

  • Cross-platform Android deployment that works with African connectivity patterns

  • Token-based reward system with smart contract integration

  • Intuitive survey and micro-task completion interface

  • User profiles and community features

Researcher Platform:

  • Web-based study creation and management tools

  • Participant recruitment and engagement systems

  • Real-time response tracking and analytics

  • Transparent payment processing

Smart Contract Integration:

  • Automated participant compensation

  • Transparent payment verification

  • Scalable token distribution system

The Impact We’re Most Proud Of

For Participants: 600+ individuals earned tokens for sharing meaningful insights while contributing to research that matters to their communities.

For Researchers: Organizations got quality data from engaged African communities at a fraction of traditional research costs.

For the Ecosystem: We demonstrated practical blockchain micropayments at scale while creating genuine earning opportunities for underserved communities.

Challenges That Made Us Better

Building for African markets taught us important lessons about connectivity constraints, payment preferences, and community trust. Every technical challenge forced us to build more thoughtfully.

The diversity in our research partnerships showed us that one-size-fits-all approaches don’t work. Each project required different tools, different participant engagement strategies, and different success metrics.

What’s Next

This grant period established the foundation for something sustainable:

  • Working technology that people use and trust

  • Research partnerships with organizations doing meaningful work

  • Community of engaged participants across multiple African countries

  • Business model that creates value for all participants

The micro-task economy in Africa is real and growing. We’ve built the infrastructure to support it.
