MiniPay Update Q2 2024

It is now officially 9 months since MiniPay’s launch and we wanted to share an update with the community in the second quarter of 2024. MiniPay recorded some remarkable milestones as a part of the Celo ecosystem, underscoring our continued growth and the success of the entire community.

Key Achievements:

  • Crossed 3 Million Wallets: MiniPay has since surpassed 3 million wallet activations in Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, and South Africa and continues to grow while maintaining a steady level of activity recently expanding to South Africa.

  • MiniPay V2 launch : In July Minipay unveiled a brand-new user interface designed to enhance user engagement and satisfaction. This update includes Pockets and USDC & USDT support

  • Now Featuring 10 Celo dApps - newly introducing Pretium, Predictor, TryHold with the addition of these dApps Minipay expands with real-life use cases, actively increasing DAUs.

Driving Adoption for Celo Ecosystem dApps

MiniPay has now generated over 18 million impressions for Celo ecosystem dApps integrated in the Discover page, with over 9 million of those achieved in Q2 2024. With over 150,000 daily visits and 80,000 average daily transactions, the Discover section now features a curated list of 10 apps and growing.

Co-Marketing Campaigns

MiniPay is also running ongoing campaigns with partners like Fonbnk, Impact Market, Blockscratch, and BitGifty with the strategic aim of increasing the stickiness of the wallet and incentivising frequent use, as well as to increase the average wallet balance and overall economy size.

Use Case: Pay with MiniPay

Case Study 1: BitGifty

BitGifty, discovered as part of the Celo Camp Batch 8, was listed on the MiniPay Discover page at the end of March. Since then, MiniPay has facilitated over 90,000 local bill payments including electricity, airtime, data, and cable subscriptions in Nigeria, Kenya, and Ghana through BitGifty.

Opera continues to collaborate with the BitGifty team on product design, development, and marketing to enhance their offerings and reach

Case Study 2: Pretium

Pretium, developed by a local team in Kenya, also discovered from the Celo Camp, enables seamless Lipa na M-Pesa payments directly from MiniPay. This integration provides a highly beneficial use case for MiniPay users in Kenya and unlocks possibilities for users in new countries yet to be unlocked.

Community Growth

The MiniPay student ambassador program has grown from 200 Ambassadors in Nigeria and Kenya to 1000 student Ambassadors across over 80 higher institutions in both countries.

So far MiniPay student ambassadors have been able to drive over 300,000 activations in both countries since launch. These ambassadors play a crucial role in spreading awareness, driving user stories, and educating their peers about the benefits of MiniPay, creating a grassroots movement that fuels growth.

MiniPay as Payout Method for Web2 Native Campaigns

MiniPay has replaced regular local payment methods for Web2 native marketing campaigns in Opera Mini browser. This transition highlights MiniPay’s versatility and effectiveness in driving valuable transactions with real use, offering a seamless and efficient payment solution for marketing initiatives that users already love.

MiniPay July Release

  • Introducing Drag & Swap: Alongside the multicoin feature with Pockets, we are excited to introduce the innovative ‘Drag and Swap’ feature, powered by the MENTO Protocol, a close partner of Opera. This feature makes it easier than ever for users to seamlessly swap between cUSD, USDC, and USDT. With a simple drag-and-drop action, users can effortlessly transition between stablecoins, enhancing the overall user experience. This intuitive functionality underscores our commitment to making MiniPay accessible and user-friendly for everyday transactions.

The updated UI offers a more intuitive and visually appealing experience, making it easier for users to navigate and utilize the full range of MiniPay’s features. This redesign is part of our ongoing effort to improve user interaction and overall experience in the wallet.

What’s Next?

  • MiniPay Standalone coming soon on Android and iOS and will enable global access to the app.
  • Expansion to new markets in Africa and outside of Africa once MiniPay standalone is launched.

I think this will help a lot of people in Kenya and across Africa this is because of high cost of living. so mini pay doing all this to us making tractions without any tax. it is really amazing and good news to ear to all Africans. i really love mini pay because it gaves me un opportunity to achieve my goals and to make my life stable for all the rewards you’re giving to me and to all all Africans i really say thanks to mini pay.
