Hi everyone! Following up on @ddd’s earlier post about hypercerts for ecological impact, I wanted to share some exciting progress that our team at GainForest has made on ecocerts.
Introducing Ecocertain: A Hypercerts Marketplace Built on Celo
In February, we launched Ecocertain.xyz, a hypercerts marketplace for land-based environmental projects working on conservation, restoration, and regeneration. The platform brings together several key components:
- Impact Verification: Projects showcase their work through comprehensive proof including data, videos, and photos
- Satellite Monitoring: Integrated site boundary verification via Green Globe
- Community Reviews: Built-in verification and review features for transparent impact assessment
- Celo Integration: Hypercerts contracts deployed on Celo, with ecocerts purchased using CELO tokens
Gitcoin Grants 23 (GG23) Results
In collaboration with the Hypercerts Foundation, supported by Celo PG and Ma Earth, we hosted the “Hypercerts for Nature Stewards” community round on GG23 with a $20K matching pool. Here is a summary of the results:
- 29 accepted projects
- 922 individual donations
- 350 unique donors
- $4,117.27 USD total donations
What made this round particularly interesting was our integration of DeepGov for impact evaluation and resource allocation. This represented one of the first applications of AI-powered governance tools to environmental funding decisions, and we’re excited about the potential this opens up to the wider public goods ecosystem.
