cREAL makes much more sense IMO.
Hi Mila! I did watch a presentation with you this days, so when I read your message I can totally emulate your accent and general excitement.
CEREAL is a great name! Not only because the grains name are giving after the Roman goddess Ceres, but it originally came from the Greek goddess of agriculture and fertility Demeter (ĪημήĻĪ·Ļ) - which in ancient times literally meant āfrom the wombā (ĻĪ·Ļ Ī¼Ī®ĻĻα). I canāt imagine something more sacred! Iāve lived in Greece for fours years, where I heard it first. Surreal, isnāt it?
Anyhow, I still believe (but can change my mind) the stablecoin in itself should follow the international convention, and then we can - on top of it - build all sort of functionalities, tokens, products, apps, services or bots with more āevokingā names.
ā¦didnāt know about the dReal initiative. I guess whatever future name the Brazilian Central Bank pushes, it is gonna keep the ISO BRL for international pairing.
For those born before '94, like me, we had the Cruzeiros;
I am blushing⦠TY for watching
Our aim is to make content public in PT. Maybe you join the next? Thats cool inputs, I did not know about the Greek background, but do know its one of Brazilians fave spot. I found it all very relevant, but remain with the same doubt: crypto real (whatever the name) is smth that I would love to see hit mainstream adoption. Laws are just right here for it. Why refer to it in international standards? Its currency to buy bread first, while also to invest. While all investors that use staking dApps know that BRL is Real, daily users of Real donāt know what is BRL. How this affects pre-paid crypto card users? And crypto wallet users? Is the audience for cBRL/Real the same as cUSD and cEUR?
Some context below. I find so exciting times⦠But to be clear: my opinion is not based on the Central Bank choice, but in the real possibility of cReal mass adoption as daily use payment method and DEFI enabler⦠If we talk about DEFI For the People I think someone needs to make sure the people will get it, specially when the govt says they are looking fwd to regulate crypto as investment yet not as payment method/DEFI.
Update on this. I found this on the crypto brl page:
So it seems this stable coin is actually going to disappear this year so this may not be an issue.
They were acquired by Transfero;
Stablecoin BRZ (Brazilian Digital Token), issued by Swiss-based company Transfero, announced the purchase of CryptoBRL (CBRL), another stablecoin paired with the Real.
and became now the largest stablecoin not linked to the dollar.
I understand your questions, but not sure there are ārightā answers.
Sounds more appropriated for Marketing experts, if we formulate it in terms of adapting the currency name for the audience who are going to use it, or not. At least I guess we can agree it should be broader than any limited specific group.
cReal sounds very cool - specially if the CBDC goes as dReal - and I see that for many people who are going to deal with a parallel digital Real for the first time, cBRL might sound odd. In other hand, 1) I trust that people learn and get used to new things faster than we believe, and 2) cBRL would always be displayed as Celo Real, in the same way cUSD is a Celo Dollar; this way - in my humble opinion - we follow the International Currency ISO and transfer the usability questions for the smart UX designers.
We have it! Thank you for all involved on making it happen!

And this is just a start⦠
Hi folks, I just noticed that there is hardly any cREAL in circulation (See CeloReserve.org).
Why is this the case?
As a side note, is XOF (West African Franc) an approved cStable? If so, why is that not showing on the reserve? If not, why hasnāt it been approved?
Thanks.
Because the contract was initialised with zero initial allocation, and the only cREALs in circulation are those minted via Mento.
@Polo what DApp is that you are showing the screenshot for?
Seems you are using Celo Cli, but also some other DApp?
It is just the Celo Wallet, @Pinotio.com
@pedro-clabs I can also confirm that when I exchange CELO->cREAL by the Wallet or by the celocli, it also affects the shown Reserve, correctly; just to endorse it is Mento acting under the hood.
Beautiful.
I was using Celo Wallet Web. With the desktop I see itās possible to get cREAL - really nice!
Hopefully Valora add cREAL soon
I highly support the cBRL coming to life. Iāll definitely purchase a lot of these assets. This would be a financial competitor in the Brazilian market.
Iām also very happy about this. Valora needs to add the cBRL asap. Iām ready to buy.
cXOF is not an approved cSTABLE. XOF is pegged to the EURO, but cXOF has no mechanism to keep that peg.
Does cReal still exist? Can we purchase it?
