Celo Camp 2025: Season 0-1 Proposal

Yes, indeed and with our AI Agents we are reducing the operation cost dramatically, while increasing efficiency and reach.

And as our friends and team members has been engaging in Hackathons and Web3 products for 6 years, we are confident we can onboard and form a new class of experienced builders to engage with us and build DeFi, boost transaction volume and TVL.

As some of our core team members has been doing events for developers, we have a robust database of top builders we can onboard, including developers who helped build some of the biggest protocols on Web3 with billions of dollars on TX and TVL. We just are looking for 1 opportunity to proof what we are capable to do.

Hi @oscar, thanks for your feedback.

It seems that you are referring to the Startup Pathway program which is our self-guided educational program and not Celo Camp. The Upright team ran both the Celo Camp accelerator and the Minipay launchpad over consecutive batches. You can find the past results, notable alumni, prize winners and KPIs in these links:

As for the budget, our accelerator includes ~8 weeks of outreach and marketing, a full 8 weeks of curriculum, mentorship program, hands on support, curation and quite a bit of coordination between different partners taking part in this initiative. We originally had a higher investment pool but decided to start with a smaller pool as this is the first time we’ll offer direct investments in teams on top of the graduates event (budgeted $25K) which we believe is a high value prize for participants.

As for the Talent protocol award, from looking at our records it seems you did receive an email on Sep 11, 2024 with instructions on how to claim the award and a contact person for support. Happy to jump on a call to see if there is anything we missed there as well as learning more about your experience. Will DM you to schedule a call.

@OzKar raises some very important points:

The proposal allocates $100,000 as an investment into select participant projects. While supporting builders is commendable, it’s important to recognize that this structure implies Upright will expect a financial return or otherwise. This places pressure on early-stage projects to deliver under investment terms, all while utilizing Celo community funds on what could be public goods or open source projects.

An alternative approach might be to structure this as a prize or milestone-based grant that are unlocked progressively as deliverables are achieved.

I also agree that 2.5x the investment amount as “Operations and Marketing” is not justifiable.

At UMN Blockchain we originally had similar doubts about the budget as @OzKar and @yomfana , but we ultimately are voting yes.

  • We want to see the growth of Celo and projects being encouraged
  • This is a trial run. Depending on how the program works out, the budget can be adjusted next time if the financial return isn’t proportional to the amount spent.

You have to spend money to make money, so we are voting yes.

We voted YES because we believe initiatives like this are essential for bringing creative individuals together and fostering growth in the Web3 space. The program’s structured organization and inclusion of performance metrics further strengthen its potential impact by ensuring accountability and transparency to the community.

Hello @tumblockchain @UMNBlockchain,

Thanks for providing such detailed reasoning behind your vote! It might be a great idea to start posting those explanations directly under your delegation threads, similar to how some other delegates do it. I think it would help the community follow along more easily.

Revision 2: Addition of Regional Focus Section

Section Changed: After Self Protocol section (new section added)

Change:
Removed: “”
Added: “Regional Focus
We recognize the important role that Regional DAOs play in identifying local challenges and onboarding builders. We will work closely with Regional Councils, Celo EU, CeLatam, and Celo Colombia to leverage their networks and ensure a diverse and impactful cohort. This collaboration will help us identify and support projects addressing real-world challenges in various regions and strengthen the overall Celo ecosystem.”

Justification:

  • Primary supporting feedback: Priority #1 from @Joan_DeRB (SimScore 51%): “Thank you for putting together this proposal and for your continued work in supporting builders within the Celo ecosystem. Celo Camp has been instrumental in fostering innovation, and it’s great to see plans for another strong cohort. I wanted to share a few thoughts on how this initiative could be further strengthened.”

Additional supporting feedback:

  • Priority #5 from @celoColombiano (SimScore 44%): “At Celo Colombia, we fully support the continuation of Celo Camp and recognize its tremendous impact in fostering innovation within the ecosystem.”
  • Priority #21 from @Joan_DeRB (SimScore 37%): “On the focus areas (Minipay, CxAI, and Divvi), as you have mentioned, I believe Regional DAOs can play a key role in onboarding builders, supporting projects, and identifying real-world challenges that these technologies can help solve by having some boots on the ground. Leveraging these communities could expand outreach and ensure a strong pipeline of participants. We look forward to connecting through the Regional Council and Celo EU to contribute to this effort and help strengthen the ecosystem and your initiative.”

The change addresses the recommendation for regional collaboration to strengthen the initiative, as suggested by one of the highest scoring feedback items.

Thanks for the great support of the Celo community in getting the Celo Camp seasons 0-1 proposal to pass the vote! Unfortunately, we had a small discrepancy in the JSON file associated with the proposal which prevents it from being approved and executed on-chain.

We kindly request everyone who voted for the proposal to vote for it again here, so it can properly execute on-chain. In addition we updated the receiving wallet to a ⅔ multi-sig and added the signers names.
