Participating in Mento Governance

Lock. Vote. Earn: How to Shape the Future of Mento with veMENTO

With the launch of the MENTO token, the Mento Protocol enters an exciting new phase—one defined by community ownership, decentralized decision-making, and long-term alignment between builders, users, and token holders.

If you’re part of the Celo community and received MENTO tokens during the recent airdrop, you’re already in a position to shape what comes next.

What is veMENTO?

veMENTO (vote-escrowed MENTO) is a locked version of the MENTO token that gives you voting power in protocol governance. Inspired by the model pioneered by Curve Finance, veMENTO ensures that the most committed participants have the greatest say.

When you lock MENTO tokens as veMENTO, you:

  • Gain voting rights in Mento governance proposals (e.g., upgrades, incentives, buybacks)
  • Signal long-term alignment with the ecosystem
  • Increase your voting power the longer you lock (up to 2 years for maximum weight)

Why Lock MENTO?

Mento’s governance is designed to reward active contributors and long-term supporters. By locking your tokens, you can directly participate in key decisions—like the vote on MENTO transferability or token buybacks.

The Mento Protocol generates income from reserve yields, swap fees, and interest rates. Currently, all protocol revenue flows to the decentralized reserve—but governance participation will shape how these funds are used in the future: from ecosystem incentives to potential token rewards.

Locking MENTO means gaining both influence and a stake in the protocol’s long-term success.

How to Lock Your Tokens

Getting started is easy:

  1. Go to the Mento Governance Portal
  2. Connect your wallet
  3. Choose your desired locking duration (1 week to 2 years)
  4. Confirm the transaction
