Jovian Hardfork Announcement

Hello Celo Community,

We’re sharing an important update for node operators and ecosystem participants: the Jovian Hardfork activation dates are now confirmed.

This post will serve as the central reference point for key timing and upgrade details. Additional information, including required client software versions, will be shared ahead of each activation.

:date: Activation Dates

  • Celo Sepolia Testnet Activation: March 3, 2026

  • Celo Mainnet Activation: March 17, 2026

What is the Jovian Hardfork?

The Jovian Hardfork brings in features from Optimism’s Jovian upgrade, along with several Celo-specific improvements focused on alignment with the OP stack and improvements around gas accounting and base fee configuration.

Key changes include:

Minimum Base Fee Transition

Celo will transition from its existing gas price floor mechanism to Optimism’s configurable Minimum Base Fee standard. This maintains a cost floor while improving alignment with broader OP Stack conventions.

For the full technical specification, refer to the Jovian upgrade spec.

Fusaka Readiness

Jovian introduces improvements that prepare Celo for full compatibility with Ethereum’s Fusaka upgrade, ensuring continued alignment across the OP Stack ecosystem.

Transfer Precompile Address Warming

The transfer precompile will now warm both from and to addresses during execution. This aligns with standard EVM behavior and ensures correct gas accounting for any subsequent operations on the same address.

For Node Operators

Required software versions and upgrade instructions will be announced in advance of the activation dates. Please check back here for updates as we get closer to testnet and mainnet rollout.

As always, we welcome questions and are here to support throughout this activation.
